Il est important de comprendre l\u2019<strong>influence des changements du climat et du cycle du carbone sur la vie<\/strong>, et notamment sur des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes \u00e0 la biodiversit\u00e9 tr\u00e8s riche et sensible comme le sont les <strong>plateformes carbonat\u00e9es <\/strong> (Bahamas, Grande barri\u00e8re de corail, Maldives, Nouvelle-Cal\u00e9donie\u2026).<br class=\"autobr\" \/> Pour cela, nous avons \u00e9tudi\u00e9 des roches qui formaient une ancienne plateforme carbonat\u00e9e en France (Nord du Bassin Aquitain) il y a environ 100 millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es (Cr\u00e9tac\u00e9). Le niveau des oc\u00e9ans \u00e9tait alors bien plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 qu\u2019aujourd\u2019hui et la temp\u00e9rature de l\u2019eau de mer en France \u00e9tait comparable avec celle des mers tropicales actuelles.<br class=\"autobr\" \/> Nous avons reconstitu\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9volution de cette plateforme carbonat\u00e9e pendant plus d\u2019un million d\u2019ann\u00e9es en nous int\u00e9ressant par exemple \u00e0 sa morphologie et \u00e0 la vie qui s\u2019y d\u00e9veloppait. <br class=\"autobr\" \/> Le \u03b413C est proportionnel au rapport entre deux isotopes du carbone\u00a0: 13C\/12C, le 12C \u00e9tant enrichi dans la mati\u00e8re organique constituant le plancton marin. Une augmentation de ce rapport dans l\u2019oc\u00e9an est associ\u00e9e \u00e0 un stockage de carbone organique dans les s\u00e9diments, lors d\u2019anoxie de l\u2019oc\u00e9an. L\u2019absence d\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne dans la colonne d\u2019eau est provoqu\u00e9e par des blooms de production organique, consommant l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne, et favoris\u00e9s entre autres par l\u2019augmentation du transfert de nutriments lors de p\u00e9riodes chaudes, marqu\u00e9es par l\u2019augmentation du CO2 atmosph\u00e9rique. Ces anoxies emp\u00eachent la mati\u00e8re organique de se d\u00e9grader. Le signal isotopique du carbone enregistr\u00e9 dans les s\u00e9diments marins est donc un bon marqueur du cycle du carbone. <br class=\"autobr\" \/> Dans notre travail, l\u2019\u00e9tude des microfaci\u00e8s carbonat\u00e9s d\u2019eaux peu profondes a permis d\u2019en reconstituer deux types. Le premier est un faci\u00e8s <i>photozoan<\/i>, riches en coraux, pelo\u00efdes et oolites, typique d\u2019eaux oligotrophiques, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire pauvre en nutriments organiques (plancton). Le deuxi\u00e8me est un faci\u00e8s <i>heterozoan<\/i>, riches en \u00e9chinodermes, rudistes, bryozoaires et brachiopodes, typique d\u2019eaux m\u00e9sotrophiques \u00e0 eutrophiques (riches en nutriments). L\u2019analyse du \u03b413C a permis de reconstituer ses variations dans l\u2019oc\u00e9an de mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s fine pendant la p\u00e9riode g\u00e9ologique du C\u00e9nomanien (environ 95 Ma). Notre travail montre que l\u2019augmentation du \u03b413C (&gt;2,5\u2030) de l\u2019oc\u00e9an Atlantique et T\u00e9thys est corr\u00e9l\u00e9 \u00e0 un bouleversement de l\u2019\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me de la plateforme carbonat\u00e9e\u00a0: les coraux disparaissent au profit des bivalves, \u00e9chinodermes et bryozoaires. L\u2019augmentation du \u03b413C indique probablement une hausse de la productivit\u00e9 primaire de l\u2019oc\u00e9an, impactant les plates-formes carbonat\u00e9es d\u2019eaux tr\u00e8s peu profondes. Ce changement en termes de biodiversit\u00e9 est associ\u00e9 avec un changement de morphologie de la plate-forme marqu\u00e9e par l\u2019apparition de cordons sableux (\u00e0 d\u00e9bris bioclastiques d\u2019\u00e9chinodermes) et de bioconstructions \u00e0 rudistes. Lorsque le \u03b413C augmente encore davantage (&gt;3\u2030), les roches carbonat\u00e9es disparaissent au profit de s\u00e9diments argileux et la vie devient beaucoup plus rare.<br class=\"autobr\" \/> Cette \u00e9tude tend \u00e0 montrer que le cycle du carbone a une influence importante sur des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes tr\u00e8s riches tels que les lagons ou les r\u00e9cifs coralliens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Andrieu, S., Brigaud, B., Rabourg, T., Noret, A., 2015.
