• Alessandra Carbone, Sorbonne University – Professor in Computer Science at Sorbonne Université – Head of the Laboratory of Computational and Quantitative Biology (LCQB) 
  Title: Deep Learning in protein-protein interactions 
  Abstract: Most proteins perform their biological functions by interacting with other molecules or themselves. Identifying protein-protein interactions (PPI) therefore provides biological information on protein functions, disease prevalence and the development of therapies. However, finding the interacting protein pairs using experimental approaches is time-consuming and labor-intensive due to the diversity of proteins. Deep Learning methods have enabled major advances in predicting the three-dimensional structure of proteins from genomes, predicting the functions and attributes of a protein and in modifying and designing new task-specific proteins. During this talk, various methods and recent breakthroughs in Deep Learning enabling unprecedented results in reconstructing protein-protein interactions networks and estimating changes in binding affinity will be presented. 
  Biography: A. Carbone is Professor of Computer Science at Sorbonne University, Director of the Laboratory of Computational and Quantitative Biology (LCQB) and co-director of the Bioinformatics and Modeling (BIM) Master’s program. She develops deep learning methods, mathematical models based on statistics and combinatorics, and algorithmic approaches to study the fundamental principles of cellular functioning from genomic data. Its projects aim to understand the principles of evolution and co-evolution of molecular structures. It concerns genome evolution, ancient genomes and adaptation, protein-protein interactions and their evolution.

• Anthony Coutant, HephIA – 
  Title: Trajectoire d’une Startup Deep Tech en IA : De l’IA exploratoire pour les industries à l’IA générative pour le droit 
  Abstract: Dans cette présentation, nous explorerons le parcours d’HephIA, notre entreprise, depuis ses premiers pas dans la recherche en intelligence artificielle jusqu’à son engagement actuel dans le développement d’outils génératifs pour le secteur juridique. Vous comprendrez comment nous, chez HephIA, avons progressivement transformé des concepts de pointe en prototypes fonctionnels, contribuant à innover dans la pratique du droit. Cette présentation soulignera nos efforts et notre détermination à surmonter les défis scientifiques et technologiques, tout en illustrant notre engagement envers une technologie transformative. 

• Harley Davis, Athena Decision Systems – 
  Title: AI Agent Precision: Maximizing decision accuracy with business rules integration 
  Abstract: Aujourd’hui, l’engouement autour de l’IA générative et des LLMs est immense. Certains experts pensent même que cette technologie marque les premiers pas vers l’AGI. L’IA générative produit effectivement des résultats impressionnants, tant sur le plan linguistique que visuel. Cependant, pour que cette technologie soit déployée efficacement en entreprise, il reste encore des défis à relever pour la rendre fiable, explicable et précise dans les décisions critiques. C’est pourquoi une approche hybride, combinant différentes technologies de l’IA, dont des méthodes symboliques, est essentielle. Ces dernières permettent d’obtenir des résultats précis, répétables et explicables, bien que cela ait un coût. Lors de cette présentation, nous démontrerons clairement les enjeux pour les entreprises, les défis et les faiblesses technologiques de l’IA générative, ainsi que le potentiel d’une approche hybride. 
  Biography:Harley est le fondateur et PDG d’Athena Decision Systems, une entreprise française spécialisée dans la création de solutions d’IA hybride pour les entreprises. Il a consacré toute sa carrière à l’IA, depuis ses études au MIT, où il a obtenu un double diplôme en IA et en informatique, jusqu’à son travail en tant que chercheur en IA chez Xerox PARC. Après plusieurs années chez ILOG, une société française leader en IA, et après le rachat d’ILOG par IBM, Harley a été nommé responsable de la R&D d’IBM en France, où il a supervisé le développement des logiciels de gestion des décisions intelligentes à l’échelle mondiale. Il a également créé le laboratoire d’IA d’IBM sur le plateau de Saclay et a lancé des initiatives de recherche collaborative avec l’Université Paris-Saclay. Inspiré par les possibilités offertes par ces recherches, Harley a fondé Athena Decision Systems début 2024. 

• Ioana Manolescu, INRIA – Senior Researcher 
  Title: Data and AI techniques for Fact-checking and Investigative journalism 
  Biography:Ioana Manolescu is a Senior Researcher at Inria, the national french institute of research in computer science and applied mathematics, and a part-time professor at Ecole Polytechnique, France’s leading engineering school. Her main research interests are data integration, semistructured data management, and DB+AI methods and tools for data journalism and journalistic fact checking. She has co-authored 170 articles, several books, and is a recipient of the ACM SIGMOD 2020 Contribution Award. She has been a member of the SIGMOD Executive Committee and of the PVLDB Endowment Board, an Editor in chief of the SIGMOD Record, and a general chair of the ICDE conference.
